Special Olympics Minnesota - Pickleball (Ages 8+)
Pickle ball
Special Olympics Minnesota
Participants Ages 8 and up
Pickle ball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It's played on a badminton sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Players use paddles, and a plastic ball similar to a tennis ball, and can be played as singles or doubles. It may have a silly name, but it's great exercise, easy to learn, and lots of fun!
We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older. Additionally, we provide year-round sports training and competitive opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, along with some unified programs with typical volunteers. Through athletic, health, and leadership initiatives, we aim to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in fostering personal growth, enriching their communities, and making a positive impact in the wider world.
Additional paperwork is required in order to participate in this sport. The Head of Delegation will reach out to athletes after registration with these forms. Click here to see if you qualify as an athlete.
Fee Assistance is available for participants. If needed, please complete the following form: https://bit.ly/CE192FeeAssistance.
Unified Athletes
This sport offers a Unified game play. Participants without intellectual disabilities can participate and compete on the same team. This is a voluntary role. Unified Athletes must complete a training found online, by clicking here. Unified Athletes 18 years and older are required to do a background check.
Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competitions. Through Special Olympics' athletic, health, and leadership programs, people with intellectual disabilities transform themselves, their communities, and the world.
