Special Olympics Minnesota - Bocce (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSpecial Olympics Minnesota Athletes The basic principle of bocce is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called a pallina. Bocce provides people the opportunity to have social contact, develop physically and to gain self-confidence. Participants will be put in a division by Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience. Additional paperwork is required in order to participate in this sport. The Head of Delegation will reach out to athletes after registration with these forms. Unified Athletes This sport offers a Unified option. Participants without intellectual disabilities can participate and compete on the same team. This is a voluntary role. Regionals and State Regional and State Competitions are optional for participants. In order to attend state, participants must compete in Regionals. More information will be shared at practice. Regionals will be TBD, location West St. Paul Dome. Special Olympics Minnesota - Flag Football (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSpecial Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Athletes Flag football provides players with physical exercise, self-discipline, and teamwork skills. Participants will also learn leadership and sportsmanship skills. Participants will be put in a division by Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience. This sport also offers Individual Skills, which gives individual competition for all abilities a chance to compete and showcase the skills they are learning in that sport. Additional paperwork is required in order to participate in this sport. The Head of Delegation will reach out to athletes after registration with these forms. Special Olympics Minnesota - Pickleball (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSpecial Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It's played on a badminton sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Players use paddles, and a plastic ball similar to a tennis ball, and can be played as singles or doubles. It may have a silly name, but it's great exercise, easy to learn, and lots of fun! Additional paperwork is required in order to participate in this sport. Special Olympics Minnesota - Softball (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSpecial Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up MN Softball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams. Every team aims in scoring as many runs possible, against the opponents by striking the ball with a specific bat. Pitches in softball are thrown underhand. Previous experience playing adaptive softball is helpful, as players should have basic knowledge of the sport without one-on-one support. This will be coach pitch or unified teams. Participants will be placed in a division by the Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience.
