Special Olympics Minnesota - Swimming (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSwimmingSpecial Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Swimming, along with being one of the most popular sports in the world, is a lifelong skill. This sport covers a range of events, from short sprints to longer distances and relays, including assisted swimming. Participants can compete in three of the following events: freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, Individual Medley (IM), flotation or relay. We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older. Additionally, we provide year-round sports training and competitive opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, along with some unified programs with typical volunteers. Through athletic, health, and leadership initiatives, we aim to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in fostering personal growth, enriching their communities, and making a positive impact in the wider world. Participants will be placed in a division by the Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience. Special Olympics Minnesota - Basketball (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaSpecial Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Basketball welcomes players of all ages and abilities, from young players learning to handle the ball and keeping it under control while dribbling, to older more experienced players who have the moves and know more advanced strategies. Participants will be placed in a division by the Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience. Bowling is a great sport to get some physical activity and encourage sport participation, along with socializing with others. It's a fun and inclusive sport for individuals and teams alike. We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older. It is a beneficial sport since it ensures physical exercise, participation, and social integration. Special Olympics Minnesota - Poly Hockey (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaPoly hockey Special Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Poly Hockey is a family of indoor hockey games, usually in the style of ice hockey, that are played on flat floor surfaces. As in other hockey codes, players on each team attempt to shoot a puck into a goal using sticks. We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older. Special Olympics Minnesota - Pickleball (Ages 8+)Special Olympics MinnesotaPickle ball Special Olympics Minnesota Participants Ages 8 and up Pickle ball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It's played on a badminton sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Players use paddles, and a plastic ball similar to a tennis ball, and can be played as singles or doubles. It may have a silly name, but it's great exercise, easy to learn, and lots of fun! We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older.
