ACT Prep Class1- Academic, Health, & SafetyACT Prep ClassesAdvantage Educational ProgramsGrades 10-12 The ACT Preparatory Courses are designed for those who wish to improve their test-taking skills and their overall scores on the college entrance exams. The course includes diagnostic testing, strategies for answering questions in all testing areas, instruction in time management, essay writing, and more. Youth can choose to attend classes located at Farmington High School, online, or at other area schools. In-School Course Students preferring the traditional teaching format with an in-person instructor should choose this course. It consists of four, three-hour classes, meeting at a specific location, one day a week. Students who miss a class will be provided with access to recorded virtual online instruction. Tuition for the 12-hour ACT in-person course is $180, with all class materials included. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Tuition for this course is $180. Internet connection and a computer or tablet is required. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Instruction is pre-recorded and provided online using videos and slides. Once enrolled, students may use the access code they receive to navigate through the course on their own timeline throughout the year. Tuition for this course is $80. Academic Tutoring1- Academic, Health, & SafetyLori Wilson Grades K-5 Does your child need one-on-one academic or homework help, with hands-on learning a part of the mix? Do you just want to make sure your child is getting reading time in each day? Sign-up for Academic Tutoring! Academic Tutoring is a convenient and personalized tutoring program, designed to fit the needs and interests of each student. Students can receive instruction in reading skills (phonics, spelling, comprehension strategies, knowledge-building, vocabulary), writing skills, and math, while learning about social studies and science topics. Instruction will tailor appropriate strategies and engaging activities to each student. Academic Tutoring offers private 30 minute sessions. Please complete the registration to fill out your preferences, and a Community Education staff member will reach out to you directly regarding placement. Placement will begin based on enrollment size. Locations of tutoring will be determined based on the demand. Tuition for Academic Tutoring is $25 per session. Participants can customize their schedule with their desired number of sessions. If students opt for a full school year of sessions, a payment plan will be created. Sessions will be offered on a continual weekly basis, and will follow the school district calendar. There will be no sessions on non-school days and conference days. If you would like to continue tutoring beyond your scheduled end date, please contact Community Education at least one month prior to the end of your session to secure your same time. If Community Education is not contacted, your date and time will become available to the next interested student. This fun, hands-on 4-hour course is designed for youth ages 11–15 and focuses on safety, responsibility, and professionalism. What you’ll learn: How to care for infants and children, including feeding, handling, and diapering Basic first aid and safety practices Understanding child behavior Fun and age-appropriate activity ideas Emergency procedures and how to respond Leadership and communication skills Tips on starting and growing your babysitting business Upon successful completion of the course, participants are awarded a Farmington Community Education Babysitter certificate. This certificate indicates that on the date of the class, our Community Education instructor verifies that the person met all of the course objectives and could demonstrate proficiency in the skills and topics covered in the class. Drivers Education (2025-2026)1- Academic, Health, & SafetyA+ Driving School Students may start classroom driving lessons at age 14, take the Knowledge Test and obtain their Instruction Permit at age 15, and take the Road Test and obtain their Provisional License at age 16. To be eligible to take the Road Test, students must have had their Instruction Permit for a minimum of six months. Registration for A+ Driving School. Click here to go to the site to register. Once you go to the A+ Driving website you will then select in-person classes, virtual, or self-paced online. If you are in need of Fee Assistance, please use the link provided below to apply, before registering for a class. The Driver's Education Program is divided into two phases: Classroom Phase This phase includes the required 30 hours of classroom instruction that prepares the student to take the Minnesota permit test and to take on the responsibility of driving. If a lesson is missed, a make-up lesson can be arranged with the office at either the next Farmington session or at another A+ session. This portion can be taken virtually or in-person. Behind-the-Wheel PhaseAfter students pass the permit test, they are required to complete six hours of driving lessons. The lessons are provided in three, two-hour lessons. The lessons are one-on-one instruction with instructors licensed through the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Students can be picked up from and dropped off at home, school or work. Detailed information about scheduling the behind-the-wheel lessons will be provided by A+. Please note: you can only schedule these one at a time and they may be booked out a month or so. Can't Make Every Lesson? If you miss a lesson, you are responsible for making up that exact lesson number. You can attend any A+ classroom or any community education program to make up a missed lesson. Please call A+ the office the day before so we can add the student to the attendance roster. Disclaimer: This contract expires 2 years from the first day of classroom training or when the student turns 18, whichever occurs first. All classes and BTW lessons must be completed before the expiration date. The Driver's Education program is offered as a package (classroom instruction & behind the wheel lessons) and cannot be separated. Classroom Options In-Person at Farmington High School. If class is scheduled on a non school day or conference day- class will be made virtual. Virtual - set class dates and times with an instructor, class is all online. Home Alone Training1- Academic, Health, & SafetyBrittany Hoppe Ages 7 years 6 months - 11 years Is your child ready to be home alone? Children should feel comfortable and safe when staying home alone, whether for an hour after school or several hours during the summer. Being trusted to stay home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class will address several topics relating to being home alone, including age guidelines, house rules, after school routines, activities they can do, safe habits, and more. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child after class.
