Academic Tutoring1- Academic, Health, & SafetyLori Wilson Grades K-5 Does your child need one-on-one academic or homework help, with hands-on learning a part of the mix? Do you just want to make sure your child is getting reading time in each day? Sign-up for Academic Tutoring! Academic Tutoring is a convenient and personalized tutoring program, designed to fit the needs and interests of each student. Students can receive instruction in reading skills (phonics, spelling, comprehension strategies, knowledge-building, vocabulary), writing skills, and math, while learning about social studies and science topics. Instruction will tailor appropriate strategies and engaging activities to each student. Academic Tutoring offers private 30 minute sessions. Please complete the registration to fill out your preferences, and a Community Education staff member will reach out to you directly regarding placement. Placement will begin based on enrollment size. Locations of tutoring will be determined based on the demand. Tuition for Academic Tutoring is $25 per session. Participants can customize their schedule with their desired number of sessions. If students opt for a full school year of sessions, a payment plan will be created. Sessions will be offered on a continual weekly basis, and will follow the school district calendar. There will be no sessions on non-school days and conference days. If you would like to continue tutoring beyond your scheduled end date, please contact Community Education at least one month prior to the end of your session to secure your same time. No registrations accepted after June 30, 2026. Summer Math is not a tutoring program and it is not an enrichment program to advance students ahead. It offers practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. When all lessons are completed, students will receive a certificate of achievement and restaurant meal coupon. Completed Grades Kindergarten-1st K-One Summer Math by Mail has been developed to review and enrich math concepts for kindergarteners and first graders. It offers practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence through "pen-pal" style correspondence. It is not a tutoring program and it is not designed to advance students ahead. Participants will receive a pretest to determine math skills and individualize their program. Then they will receive nine weeks of lessons. After they have completed a week’s worth of work, mail it in, and we’ll make corrections, provide comments, and mail it back! Students work at their own pace. Kids love receiving their returned assignments each week in the mail! When all lessons are completed, students will receive a meal coupon. Completed Grades 2nd-6th Keep your math skills sharp over the summer! This 10-week correspondence program was developed by a veteran teacher. Materials that students will cover during the summer review support concepts they have encountered during their previous school year. Summer Math is not a tutoring program and it is not an enrichment program to advance students ahead. It is a "pen-pal" style correspondence program and offers practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. Students will take a pre-test and fill out a questionnaire to individualize their program. Students will then receive nine weeks of materials. Each week’s packet will include five math lessons with problem-solving activities. The activities will apply to a specific math concept or strand. After the student has completed a packet, they will mail it in. We’ll make corrections, provide feedback and mail it back. Drivers Education (2025-2026)1- Academic, Health, & SafetyA+ Driving School Students may start classroom driving lessons at age 14, take the Knowledge Test and obtain their Instruction Permit at age 15, and take the Road Test and obtain their Provisional License at age 16. To be eligible to take the Road Test, students must have had their Instruction Permit for a minimum of six months. Registration for A+ Driving School. Click here to go to the site to register. Once you go to the A+ Driving website you will then select in-person classes, virtual, or self-paced online. If you are in need of Fee Assistance, please use the link provided below to apply, before registering for a class. The Driver's Education Program is divided into two phases: Classroom Phase This phase includes the required 30 hours of classroom instruction that prepares the student to take the Minnesota permit test and to take on the responsibility of driving. If a lesson is missed, a make-up lesson can be arranged with the office at either the next Farmington session or at another A+ session. This portion can be taken virtually or in-person. Behind-the-Wheel PhaseAfter students pass the permit test, they are required to complete six hours of driving lessons. The lessons are provided in three, two-hour lessons. The lessons are one-on-one instruction with instructors licensed through the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Students can be picked up from and dropped off at home, school or work. Detailed information about scheduling the behind-the-wheel lessons will be provided by A+. Please note: you can only schedule these one at a time and they may be booked out a month or so. Can't Make Every Lesson? If you miss a lesson, you are responsible for making up that exact lesson number. You can attend any A+ classroom or any community education program to make up a missed lesson. Please call A+ the office the day before so we can add the student to the attendance roster. Disclaimer: This contract expires 2 years from the first day of classroom training or when the student turns 18, whichever occurs first. All classes and BTW lessons must be completed before the expiration date. The Driver's Education program is offered as a package (classroom instruction & behind the wheel lessons) and cannot be separated. Classroom Options In-Person at Farmington High School. If class is scheduled on a non school day or conference day- class will be made virtual. Virtual - set class dates and times with an instructor, class is all online. ACT Prep Class1- Academic, Health, & SafetyACT Prep ClassesAdvantage Educational ProgramsGrades 10-12 The ACT Preparatory Courses are designed for those who wish to improve their test-taking skills and their overall scores on the college entrance exams. The course includes diagnostic testing, strategies for answering questions in all testing areas, instruction in time management, essay writing, and more. Youth can choose to attend classes located at Farmington High School, online, or at other area schools. In-School Course Students preferring the traditional teaching format with an in-person instructor should choose this course. It consists of four, three-hour classes, meeting at a specific location, one day a week. Students who miss a class will be provided with access to recorded virtual online instruction. Tuition for the 12-hour ACT in-person course is $180, with all class materials included. Dakota County 4-H Dog Training for YouthSparks Summer CampsDakota County 4-H Explorer Nature's Superheroes Join Dakota County 4-H for fun, affordable, day camp experiences. Camps are for youth currently enrolled in kindergarten through 5th grade. Dakota County 4-H is part of the University of Minnesota’s Extension Youth Development program. Registering for camp will include enrollment in 4-H, for liability purposes, with no other commitments or fees beyond the event. Train your dog in disciplines like obedience, tricks, agility, and more with the support of trainers that will help your child and canine companion succeed. Train in all the areas or just the ones that interest you. Many of our trainers have over 25 years of experience in dog training, showing, and judging. Youth have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned at the end of season dog show in July. if you have questions about this program.
