Participants Ages 8 and up

Swimming, along with being one of the most popular sports in the world, is a lifelong skill. This sport covers a range of events, from short sprints to longer distances and relays, including assisted swimming. Participants can compete in three of the following events: freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, Individual Medley (IM), flotation or relay.  

We offer competitive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities based on Special Olympics guidelines. The programs are developed in partnership with Community Education and the Tigers, a Special Olympics of Minnesota team, serving individuals aged 8 and older. Additionally, we provide year-round sports training and competitive opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, along with some unified programs with typical volunteers. Through athletic, health, and leadership initiatives, we aim to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in fostering personal growth, enriching their communities, and making a positive impact in the wider world.

Participants will be placed in a division by the Special Olympics Minnesota, based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience.

Unified Athletes

This sport offers a Unified option. This gives individuals with and without intellectual disabilities a chance to compete on the same team. This is a voluntary role. Unified Athletes must complete a training found online, by clicking here. Unified Athletes 18 years and older are required to do a background check. 

Unified athletes can compete in the 4x25 free style or 4x50 freestyle relay.
